Indonesia offers visa-free travel for up to 30 days for more than 160 countries. This includes visitors from China and the United States of America, among many others. For those that do require a travel visa, this must be obtained prior to arrival in Indonesia at your country of origin. With the exception of visa-free transit (those not leaving the airport), any country not on the visa-free travel list will require supporting documents for the approval of the tourist visa. Documents required are:
- Completed tourist visa application
- Copy of valid and eligible passport (valid for at least 6 months from date of arrival)
- Payment of the visa processing fees (varies by country)
- For some countries, additional supporting documentation such as financial proof to sustain your travel may be required, however this is on a case-by-case basis
For those traveling on business to Indonesia, business visas are available. For approval of these visas in advance, the following documents are required:

- Proof of all travel arrangements
- Proof of accommodation
- Invitation letter to Indonesia from host organization
- Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of the visit (case-by-case basis)

- Single-entry tourist visa: USD50
- Multi-entry tourist visa: USD100
- Limited-stay visa:
- Six months: USD50
- One year: USD90
- Two years: USD160

For those looking to invest in the country, Indonesia offers what it refers to as an “Investors Permit”, allowing investors to stay long-term in the country without the need for a formal work permit. In order to be eligible, investors must prove they have funded projects or business ventures worth at least USD80,000 to bring into the country (this should be in the form of paid-up shares in a limited liability company). These visas are generally valid for two years and allow the waiver of a work permit for the investor.
Upon living in Indonesia for a period of three consecutive years, a foreigner may apply for the KITAP, the permanent resident visa of Indonesia. If a foreigner is married to an Indonesian national, it is possible to apply for the KITAP visa after only two years in the country.
