Bali is home to many incredible festivals that attract visitors from around the world. The celebrations often pay homage to local cultures and customs, from art to food, religion and more. Visitors to Bali will enjoy the many festivals that often occur during the months of May to August, although cultural events are generally held year-round.

 


 

Bali Arts Festival

Inaugurated in 1979, the Bali Arts Festival is a celebration of Balinese arts and culture. It is Indonesia’s longest running arts festival and is generally held from June to July each year. The event includes an inaugural parade, followed by traditional Balinese entertainment and performances over a one-month period. During the festival, many competitions, seminars and various exhibitions are on display that promote the Balinese arts. Visitors can purchase works of art, hand-crafted items, gifts, and savor popular Balinese cuisines and dishes. The main venue is the Bali Arts Center, however performances and events happen across the island during the month-long festival.

Ubud Food Festival

Held every June in Ubud, this food festival focuses on the sustainability of Bali’s unique food and beverage culture. The weekend-long festival focuses on various demonstrations of traditional Balinese cuisines, plus several workshops and masterclasses. Special events are held throughout the program including tastings and chef meet-and-greets, as well as many free events available for visitors. The festival includes a popular artisan market, where visitors can browse and purchase many unusual crafts, hand-picked ingredients, and other special items sourced by the local community.

Bali Kite Festival

The Bali Kite Festival is held annually in July and is considered a religious festival intended to send a message of thanks to the Hindu gods. In addition to locals, the festival attracts kite enthusiasts from around the world. Many of the traditional kites are nearly 10 meters in length and are flown by competitive teams. Up to 70 people are included in the various bands, with flag bearers to support the kite  pilots. Various competitions are held during the festival, such as “New Creation” kites which showcase unique 3D shapes and patterns.
